Green Furniture at YourClimateTV
2009-12-14
I just came out of an interview for YourClimateTV at COP15 conference in Copenhagen, as designer and producer of sustainable furniture.
It will be published tomorrow as a 2 minute sequence tomorrow, meanwhile here is the full interview in text format.

1. Please introduce yourself and your company
I am Johan Berhin, Designer, and I run a small design studio in Sweden, Berhin Studios
We started to produce our own Furniture collection 3 years ago.
When the volumes started to rise, I felt that the only way I could stand for producing was to go Sustainable – and I gave the collection the name Green Furniture Sweden.
2. Please tell us about you product?
• What is the history?
This Coffee Fellow Bean bag (that we sit in): You sit well in a beanbag, and you can sit any way you want. I wanted to make a natural bag, with natural feeling and benefits – breathing material, no static electricity
• What values does it represent?
The beauty of the origin – the function, the culture. And Recycling – using what is in front of us.
3. Why do you wish to participate in YourClimate.TV?
The environment and the climate is the heart of what I do. The Climate Conference gathers a lot of good momentum. People must not forget that the climate shouldn’t be the only environment focus – but sustainable thinking will fix also the climate.
4. What is your vision for a sustainable future?
If I stay to furniture (the question gets enormous otherwise…)
I hope to rise peoples desire for sustainable design with the mind set of entering a life long relationship.
I want to lead furniture into sustainability, through my furniture collection and as a designer for other brands.
Green methods and suppliers that we develop are there also for other producers
• How is that expressed in your professional profile and strategies?
I design with the intention of lasting. And I want to give roots to the furniture – the local and natural in a new material, and the history of a recycled material.

• What is your dream scenario?
I hope that every piece of furniture I make will outlive me, something that our children and their children will value and take care of.
On every market that my furniture is available, I’d like local production and use of local material – I hope to find local Green Furniture Entrepreneurs that could form Green Furniture France or Green Furniture Brazil, with their local touch to the designs.
