Winners 2010

For the 2010 Green Furniture Award we have received 49 contributions, from where 34 outside Sweden. Five of these will be produced by Green Furniture Sweden.
Here are the winners of 2010, awarded 9 Feb at the Stockholm Furniture Fair.

1st Prize, Leaf Lamp, design Peter Schumacher, Australia

Closely resembling the way nature itself designs, this lamp has a harmonious and natural shape based on simple principles. Its trunk and branches are made from round birch parts with wedged ends that join without glue. The leaves are made out of thin, unbleached and starched wool leaves – a 100% natural mix that ships as a flat package. The tree radiates its energy through the foliage, powered by a warm LED or induction bulb that provides soft and natural light.

2nd Prize, ‘Block Shelf’, design Amy Hunting, London

Using a beautiful byproduct mix from the massive wood flooring industry, this shelf speaks “recycled” with pride. All shelves are unique, and can easily be reconfigured by the user. It can be hung on a wall or from a ceiling, where it also can function as a small room divider.

3rd Prize, ‘Cling-ON’ stool, design Charlotte Ackemar, Göteborg

The top of this stool is attached to its leg cross in a simple and straightforward manner. Thick, recycled rubber bands add playfulness and character, and lets the user easily assemble or disassemble the stool for storage.

Honorable mention, ‘Sheep’ bench, design Rimgaile Samsonaite, Lithuania

This bench, subtly shaped like a sheep, is made from lumber unqualified for planks - a half log made from non-processed byproducts that preserve the natural aspect. The sitting area of the Sheep Bench is covered by naturally barked sheepskin, leaving a small table-like area on the side. Its legs are made from non-dried materials and wedged into place. As the material dries, they are clamped in place – thus eliminating the need for glue or screws.

Honorable mention, ‘Square’ table, design Markus Johansson, Göteborg

Square in origin, this round table with legs is simply and smartly made in one step without causing any waste. The Square Table ships flatly and  it is easily assembled into a playful, edgy table with a foldable table top. Its design offers many possibilities for altering its materials and patterns.
